A Long awaited Project Completed!

 Our youngest son Harley has been moaning at me for the past 18 months to make him a lap quilt for when he is playing his games ( I must add at this point he is 17 years old) lol. His complaint was I don't ask for much and you make everyone else things and none for me! So what could I do  but sit down and try and make something without him knowing. I didn't want to make him something run of the mill and wanted to use what fabric I had in so this is what I made;

To say he was happy with it was the understatement, he was more pleased with this than his galaxy 2 tablet! and he made my day when he came up to me later and gave me a great big hug and kiss and said "thanks mum and you know what it makes it the best cos you made it for me yourself! and I will keep it forever." Well being a big cry baby i burst into tears and vowed that if any of my kids ask me to make anything for them. Not only is there love and care gone into everystitch its something they can look back on and think my mum did that and just for me! what more could i really ask for?.

The next highlight of christmas for me was my prezzie for my wonderful hubby he got me the Leah Day craftsy free motion quilting class! Amazing I have to say, especially when he complains I spend far too much time in my craft room now i will spend more time going to bed early - so I can watch the class in peace lol!

Well enough from me I hope everyone had a wonderful christmas and look forward to new year

It's been a while !

Yes it has been a while since I last posted on my blogspot and for that I am truly sorry.

It has been a somewhat chaotic few months for us up here on our wee croft to say the least, chaotic yes but unhappy no! Let me fill you in a little, first of all my wonderful husband and I decided to take a motorbike trip to Spain for a few weeks and fantastic it was, even the horrendous rain didn't put us off and as everyone knows every cloud has a silver lining- ours was discovering one of the most amazing one of the most amazing little hotels high in the spanish mountains that we would never of come across if our sat nav had not take us 150 miles out of our way. I never realised how truly decadent it can feel to say when you order red wine to say we will just take the bottle without asking the price first- the need of a drink was dire lol, then to find out the next day when you pay the bill the wine was a mere 3 euros was even better lol! Our trip was amazing, meeting lovely people and realising the importance of just  being together as a couple on an adventure was inspiring but we had to head home and become responsible as my daughter would say. Her opinion of our trip was don't be stupid you two on a motorbike holiday do you realise how totally irresponsible that is! It is great to still be able to be irresponsible and enjoy it I told her !

Now on the way back home we had to make a diversion as just before we left for spain we had recieved a phone call from a young man by the name of Damion who had been looking for his dad for quite some years and believed that Peter my hubby could well be him. Let me explain Pete had a relationship with a girl when they were both young and it hadn't lasted and Peter wasnt sure if there had been a child or not, when he told me when we first started seeing each other I simply said well if there is a child out there it will find you as kids always want to know where they come from. When we saw pics of Damion it was no doubt who his daddy was and what followed were some emotional phonecalls and one especially emotional card that arrived to pete from damion saying he had waited 34 years to send a card to his dad. Any how I digress, on the way back we called in at Damions and met him, his lovely partner Lauren and our first grandson Oscar, and I cannot think of our family complete without Damion and his family being in it.

Then we had the delightful arrival of our grandaughter Sophie Isabella, she turned my life upside down, people often said how wonderful it was to be a grandparent but I didn't quite get it,

I'm not very maternal you see, yes I love my children but I am not keen on other peoples, so when Sophie came along she completely blew my emotions out of the water, I cried like the proverbial baby and couldnt tell you just how much I adore her!

But this wasn't the last of the surprises by a long way, we had booked to go and visit our son and daughter in law in september this year because they were having a baby too. So I was all excited, suitcases bought- I normal travel everywhere with a rucksack so new experience to me ! When we got a phone call in mid august " Mum would be ok if we came home ?" my son said, shocked I told him there would be no problem but they would need to organise a visa for my daughter in law and they were leaving it a bit late if they intended to have the baby over here as it was due in October. Thinking no more of it I was even more amazed when they rang the last week of August saying they would be arriving on the 6th Sept and could we pick them up at the airport after all its only 300 miles away lol! Of course our answer was yes, and again it was a day of tears because I never ever thought I would see my wonderful son wanting to move back home to the UK. They wanted a better lives for themselves they said and to bring their child up with the freedom my son had had in his childhood they told us and who on earth could argue with that! And I had them home to see me granduate from the University of the Highlands and Islands I am a accomplished Level 3 Professional Beauty Therapist!

So once we got them home we had to organise Tori's medical care for the baby arriving , a job for Vin and lots to do before baby arrived.

And arrived he did our gorgeous grandson Eli Peter was born on the 5th october and is now thriving and a happy liitle boy.  It has been a shock after having the house to just Peter and I and our youngest Harley, to now having Vin and Tori and baby Eli at home, there have been some spats but there has mostly been giggles and laughter and smiles and I cherish each and every one there is.

Needless to say there has been crafting and I will now get back to posting pics and keeping up to date on a regular basis. But I think that is enough for today so take care and speak soon xx

Bunting ( Big Fat Gypsy Style)

Well this week has been busy busy with lots of new courses to complete for my beauty therapy treatments and just a wee bit of sewing! I must admit sometimes I go in my room to sew and just end up staring out of the window and out to sea, I must learn to get used to the view but years have gone by and I still adore it! Anyhow I decided to make some bunting but wanted it a wee bit different and as being both my husbands and I's families are romanies i decided to go on the big fat gypsy theme! So have a look and see what you think!
Each length is 2m long and available to buy at £20 a length x

Wonderful Hubby!

Well I think I have the best Husband in the world, Last week he ordered me a new sewing machine and today it arrived!, Looking at it think i will need to take a degree in computers to understand it but I guess I will learn lol! Not only did he buy me a sewing machine though but also an overlocker too! So today he knocked me a new bench up to take my sewing machine Husqvana Sapphire 875q  because my old desk was way to small so it was time for a change around so what do you think?

and finally I want to wish him a very Happy Birthday for today and say sorry I spoilt it by him having to hold my hand at thhe doctors then spending the rest of the day helping me in the workroom, I really do love you and appreciate all you do for me! xxx

Tractors, Tractors, Tractors!

Well today has been a day of tractors! What you may ask? Well it started this morning when I awoke to the sound of a tractor revving its engine outside, not surprising you may say considering you live on a croft but no this was the sound of a big tractor not a little one like ours! To my relief it was only our neighbour and good friend Michael who thought seen as it was such a nice day he would come and spread our muck on the fields for us, but not only one tractor but two , one to load the dung spreader too of course ! so deciding it was probably going to smelly  went to a trip to our Local tesco and picked up loads of bargains for a change. Lots of things to take to bits and recycle! lol.

Then having spent enough time away thought i had better get back and do something a bit constructive so I sat and made four cushion covers all with International Tractors on them! & they turned out pretty darn good! So here you are have a look and see what you think!

A Day of Surprises !

Well today I have had a day of surprises with firstly my doctor telling me I now have arthritis in my thumb joint
:( so needless to say that did not make me very happy as my main job is as a beauty therapist and  it doesn't really go hand in hand with arthritic joints of my own! Then as if to cheer me up my very good friend Linda of http://coachhousecraftingonabudget.blogspot.com/ came to see me with her gorgeous daughter Leanne and we spent a great time discussing crafts and drinking tea it was so so good to catch up with them both! Then my husband tells me he has bought me the Husqvana Sapphire 875Q sewing machine! I could have kissed him to death lol . And to finish my day off  I had a brilliant evening with our good friends Tracy and Paul stuffing our faces with spare ribs and lots of wine! I mean what more could a girl want!

Catch up !

Well it's mid week, I finished my rag quilt and it came out beautifully if I do say so myself!
So today decided to go and Jane & Charmain at Barrets Beads and Crafts to pick up some more fabric because tommorow I have to teach my very good friend Tracy how to do cathedral window quilting ! Which really means lots of laughs, tea and cake, what ore could a girl ask for lol!  I have also booked a table for selling some of my products at the Vintage and Craft Fair at the Melvich Hotel on the 7th April, so if you find the time, come say hello and see what we have to offer.

Sunday, 26 February 2012

Well its been as busy weekend for me, I went to the quilting club on Saturday to meet all the ladies and catch up! Problem was i had to take something to be getting on with too, but I didn't want to take the quilt I am part way through putting together because I knew if I moved it I would lose where I am up to and my pattern comepletely! So being me I just stuck a load of fabric and some wadding in my bag and off i went and thought some form of inspiration would hit me on the way there, well I guess it did cos I decided to try my hand at making a rag rug and i have finished it and now its in the washing machine so if it works I will post a picture tommorow if not I will tell you where I went wrong! So to compensate myself I made my wonderful hubby some bannana fritters and a humongous chocolate cake too ! scrumptious!

A Day of Surprises

Well today was not a day I expected, I have sat and stared at my mass of fabric to seek some inspiration, when all of a sudden my mobile phone chirruped that i had a message. Ring me ASAP said the message! Instantly you think the worst especially as the message was from beautiful daughter in law in the states. Well I rang and had to sit down quick! Do you want to be called Grandma or Grannie my gorgeous son asked me! So there was my inspiration! Two grandchildren now due this year! My daughter told me at the end of last year that her and her husband we expecting a baby in July too, so looks like my inspiration is going to be babies. So get ready for lots of baby things for the next month or so!
